INFINITE SPACE, INFINITE GOD

Day 1 Sunday

I'm not going to lie to you. I was a bit nervous about this one. I mean I grew up with a Pentecostal background, although I didn't see myself as judgmental. I felt that religion itself was wrong, and to a large degree maintain that opinion. So reviewing something that not only says it is a collection of Catholic works, but boasts about the fact put me on edge. Still, because of the contact I've had with Karina Fabian, who compiled this work with her husband Rob, I found myself timidly entering unchartered waters. While I think the “Catholic” bit was a bit overdone in some cases I have to remind myself that this was written BY Catholics and TO Catholics. No one is out to change anyone's denominational ties here. They are simply doing what writers have been told to do for ages, write about what you know, and they know Catholicism. I found out they knew a lot more as well.

In one very real sense this "Catholic" work stands as a "David" against the "Goliaths" of our day, reminding those of us from other denominational backgrounds that God is God and that taking our own personal experiences into the battle isn't always a bad thing. I would like to say this is a Christian work, and while this is true it is also a work by those refusing to be ashamed at being called Catholic. This is something many of us have forgotten.

One of my chief desires for touring INFINITE SPACE, INFINITE GOD, however, has nothing to do with Catholicism. Instead it has to do with the desire for CFRB to branch out to do short stories. This work, as well as LIGHT AT THE EDGE OF DARKNESS have helped in creating a bridge from here to there. Please check out the other sites and come back tomorrow when I'll tune in on one of the great stories in this work. I hope you will find these posts intriguing enough to go out and purchase this one of a kind book.

Hi,

I know you're copying form the CFRB site, but I'd like to correct a couple of misconceptions.

Infinite Space, Infinite God is science fiction with a Catholic theme. However, it was not written by Catholics only. In fact, our contributors include a Christian minister, non-Catholic Christians and a member of the Ba'ha'i faith. I applaud these writers on their excellent ability to so convincingly portray a religion they do not practice.

Second, ISIG was not written "TO Catholics." Just as Catholics can enjoy literature of other faiths, secular works or even works of fantasy and sci-fi that have made up religions, we'd hope that anyone who enjoys thought-provoking science fiction will also enjoy Infinite Space, Infinite God. We think this is so, since it was accepted by a secular publisher, Twilight Times Books and has gotten strong reviews from non-Catholics and Catholics alike.

If anyone would like to learn more about Infinite Space, Infinite God, please check out the website at http://isigsf.tripod.com.

Thanks for hosting us on the tour!

Blessings,
Karina Fabian

Thank you for correcting me on this. My apologies. One word, when I said it was "To Catholics" I was referring to the fact that this was not meant to be evangelistic, but rather to show Catholics that OTHER Catholics enjoyed a wide variety of writing. I understand, however, that without the "by Catholics" this second comment loses some impact.

You'll enjoy the rest of the tour, however. It's 6 reviews of 6 stories I loved and not a lot of subjectivity involved. Just good clean reviews about great pieces of writing.

Tangerine

Tangerine by Marilynn Griffith

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Tangerine is the third book in the Shades of Style Novels.

Fans of Pink and Jade will eat up Tangerine, the third book in the cutting-edge Shades of Style series. Jean Guerra, a designer at Garments of Praise design firm, doesn't like surprises. These days though, the unexpected meets her everywhere. Since Jean's return to the church a year ago, her God-encounters occur with increasing frequency, along with thoughts of her husband-the one she vowed to divorce and gave up on long ago. The one nobody at work knows about, not even her best friend, Lily, or her boss, Chenille. But when the designer assigned to work with Jean on a line of men's suits shows up, her heart flips. It's her husband, Nigel Salvador. Jean is finally rendered speechless. Can her bruised heart become whole enough to love again? Or will she remain in the trenches of loneliness forever?
